Podcasting Top Tips – Stage Two (Recording and Quality)

First impressions matter.

In today’s modern world, audience attention spans are shorter and most people make up their minds about content within the first seven seconds.

Therefore, the one thing that needs to be crystal clear about your podcast from the start is QUALITY.

Whilst having a good microphone is important, it is not the only cornerstone of quality. Many people are wrong in thinking that quality is all about having the most expensive, top-of-the-range microphone.

They think that this, and this alone, will give their podcast the quality they want. Set yourself apart from the crowd and realise that many other things combined achieve quality, including:

Comfort

This will be dependent on your podcast length; however, you need to be comfortable spending at least 30 to 60 minutes in your recording space.

This will make your recording process a positive and enjoyable experience, that will be conveyed through your voice!

Microphone

There is a range of microphones on the market, all varying in quality.

Look for a microphone with external gain control so you can optimise your voice levels in your environment.

Noise Pollution

To ensure minimal interruption, you should record your podcasts in a small, quiet room.

You should also close all windows and doors and position yourself away from machinery and devices.

Headphones

Echo from the recording process will render your podcast inaudible.

Your microphone should only pick up your audio, not your co-hosts or guests; a good set of headphones is not only recommended but essential.
